Over the course of the entire saga, the series’ many original Kingdom Hearts and Disney characters have grown strong with the fanbase. The questions regarding Roxas and any Final Fantasy characters appearing, who have been notably absent across all trailers released till now besides a name drop about Roxas or possible teases. Directer Tetsuya Nomura explained the reason behind it to different media outlets.

Roxas, who was first introduced in Kingdom Hearts 2 as Sora’s nobody, has yet to make an appearance. He was mentioned many times in not only the E3 2018 trailers, also in D23 Japan trailer and Orchestra Trailer.

Nomura teased that Roxas plays a big part in Kingdom Hearts 3, calling him the “utmost secret… the top-secret…”.

In another interview with USGamer, Nomura stated that after over 15 years, Kingdom Hearts has grown strong to the point where it does not necessarily need the assistance of Final Fantasy characters anymore unlike the previous titles. However, that does not mean Final Fantasy has been completely crossed out from appearing in Kingdom Hearts 3. More information regarding that will be revealed at a later date.
